Standing in the Shadows of Motown

"The Funk Brothers are a Motown Band who had more hits than The Beatles,     The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, and Elvis combined!" [2002, Documentary]

Culturally Relevant Pedagogy: Technology Integration

Like The Funk Brothers my gifted musician played drums, bass, saxophone, piano, and harmonica. Expository writing and text focused on musicology while his narrative chronicled the day he fell in love with an elderly neighbor's harmonica collection after bringing him the mail. Like Mitch Albom's visits with his old professor Morrie in "Tuesdays with Morrie," my student's neighbor shared life lessons while concomitantly imparting harmonica tips. His friend wrote and sang vocals during class then practiced the piano and guitar while on break.
